Civilian Response to an Active Shooter Event
Speaker - Sergeant Chuck Boyce
Sgt Chuck Boyce is the DBAC Sergeant (Downtown Business Arts & Culture) for the Tyler Police Department in Tyler, Texas. Sgt Boyce has instructed the CRASE (Civilian Response to an Active Shooter Event) class throughout the city of Tyler to businesses, churches and schools. Since 2014, he has taught over 200 classes. Sgt. Boyce is Train-the-Trainer ERASE (Exterior Response to an Active Shooter Event) certified, Train-the Trainer AAIR (Active Attack Integrated Response) certified, Train-the-Trainer Active Shooter Level I certified, a PTO (Police Training Officer), TCOLE (Texas Commission on Law Enforcement) Instructor, TCPA Crime Prevention Specialist and has been trained and certified by the ICISF (International Critical Incident Stress Foundation) to instruct Group Crisis Intervention and Assisting Individuals in Crisis.
Sgt. Boyce has been an Officer since 2009 and holds a Master TCOLE certification and a Mental Health Peace Officer certification. Sgt. Boyce has been awarded a Certificate of Merit, three Certificates of Civic Achievement and was selected Officer of the Year in 2013. He was President of the East Texas Regional Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 51 in Tyler, Texas from 2015-2019 and is currently Team Coordinator of the ETCISM (East Texas Critical Incident Stress Management Team). As President of the FOP, Sgt. Boyce communicated and worked with city government to maintain and improve Officer Benefits and pay. As Team Coordinator of the ETCISM team, Sgt. Boyce deploys First Responders (Fire, EMS, Police and Clinicians) out to traumatic events in the East Texas area involving other First Responders. CISM is First Responders helping First Responders. Officer Boyce is a Basic Chaplain and also serves as Team Coordinator for CERT (Chaplains Emergency Response Team).
